ACUPUNCTURE PROGRAM

The Eastern School's Diploma in Acupuncture program is 2202.5 hours in length and takes three years to complete. Graduates of the program receive a Masters level Diploma.

The program is designed to meet the needs of working adults. Classes meet one afternoon/evening per week and on various weekends, averaging three full weekends per month for the first two years. Clinic internship begins in the summer before the third year. Internship is 12 months long and students typically attend clinic 1 1/2 days per week. Spring and Fall incoming classes are available.

The curriculum of the Eastern School is designed to reinforce theoretical concepts with practical experience to assist the adult learner in mastering a rigorous educational program. The curriculum at the Eastern School is based on exposing students, not only to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), but other styles of acupuncture including: Five Element and Japanese (Kiiko Style).

TRADITIONAL HERBAL MEDICINE PROGRAM

Curriculum

With the understanding that herbal education consists of two main elements, didactic (instructional formulas and memorization) and clinical (the practical application of formula usage), our curriculum seamlessly merges these two educational trends. Typical of the modern western approach, our first year consists of herb and formula memorization while the second year concentrates on clinical application, formula implementation and hands-on herbal treatment. Consistent with our educational objectives, the first year will also include an in-depth study of the transition of single herbs to formula composition. Upon graduation, our clinicians will have mastered a full array of herbal nomenclature, its usages and methodologies, and all pharmacological benefits to patients.

Length of Program

The 2 year herbology program is designed to address the needs of working adults. Classes generally meet 1 afternoon and evening per week and 1 day per weekend. Clinic internship begins during the second year. Internship is 12 months long and students typically attend clinic 1 day per week. The entire course of study is 2 years and requires 1084 hours to complete.

Students should be able to complete all course work and clinic hours in order to graduate and attain a Diploma in Herbology within the two year time frame. A student who has not completed the requirements in any course or who takes time off from the program has 3 years to complete the program. After 3 years, any student who has not completed the program will no longer be able to continue their studies at Eastern School of Acupuncture.
